First Day of Gardening 2018

The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom. Like the crocus, it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy.  Isaiah 35:1,2

On February 15th, it was in the mid 70’s and we found the first crocuses of the year!  I love all of the seasons, but the thing that bothers me is the transition from winter to spring.  Growing up in Massachusetts that transition was really rough.  It was winter until April, and then it was cold, rainy, grey season until Memorial Day.  (Well, at least that’s what it seemed like to me.)

In Virginia, we get a rollercoaster from February until April.  But, what’s nice about it is the bonus days in the 60’s and 70’s.

You gotta take advantage of them, and yesterday afternoon that’s what I did!  The boys and my neighbors’ daughter ran around the backyards, and it sounded like spring.

I cleaned up some of the dried black eyed susans, ornamental grasses, oregano, etc…  to make way for the new growth.

And I’m waiting in anticipation of when the grass will start greening up so it doesn’t look so terrible!

Yes, we might see some snowflakes this weekend, and we’ll even rejoice over a late winter snowstorm.  But for now we’re going to make the most of the warm February days!
